Herbert Moore Pim (1883-1950) was an Irish writer whose dabblings with the occult are reflected in several of his books, such as A Vampire of Souls, which originally appeared in 1904. Under pseudonyms, he published simultaneously religious tracts and pornography. He converted to Catholicism in 1910, began publishing articles in the Irish News under the pseudonym A. Newman, and later became a violent Irish Nationalist. In 1915 he was imprisoned for seditious activities. In 1916 he founded The Irishman, a Belfast-based literary and political monthly, which published many of Lord Alfred Douglas’s poems, and when the latter founded his own journal, Plain English, Pim acted as assistant editor.
A Vampire of Souls, here presented in an 84-page volume, is a book of such rarity that only four copies were previously known to exist.
